Bhubaneswar, Nov, 27: A new political equation has emerged in Surada assembly constituency. A few days ago, BJD MLA Purnachandra Swain showed his strength in just 12 hours by making the Block Gherao program. BJD leaders and workers moved around Surada town in huge processions. He was seen touring the city in an open jeep along with MP Pramila Bisoyi, former chairman of Surada NAC Sanghamitra Swain, and block chairman along with the block BJD president.
Discussions have started in political circles about bringing his wife back to the political arena after many years. Surada MLA Purnachandra Swain is the first who has won this seat thrice in a row. Earlier Dharakote King Ananta Narayan Singhdeo had won four times, but not won the seat in a row.
Now the state government is giving priority to women. The BJD government has expressed its full support to the women's protection bill in the parliament. Although it is clear that there will be no reservation for women in the upcoming elections, the BJD is said to be planning to play a masterstroke by keeping 33 percent of seats reserved for women. Keeping this in mind, Surada MLA Purnachandra is planning this time to project his wife Sanghamitra as a prospective candidate. If the Chief Minister and the party president is determined to field a woman in the Surada seat, the possibility of MLA Purnachandra's wife Sangamitra as his alternative cannot be ruled out.
