New Delhi, August 25: India has witnessed a significant surge in women’s participation in the workforce over the last seven years, with the employment rate for women climbing from 22% in 2017-18 to 40.3% in 2023-24, according to data released by the Labour Ministry on Monday.

The ministry also reported a notable decline in the overall unemployment rate, which fell from 5.6% to 3.2% during the same period.

Highlighting the importance of this progress, the statement emphasized that expanding women’s workforce participation is crucial to achieving the national vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047, with a target of 70% female participation in the labour force.
