Bhubaneswar, Aug 27: Continuous rainfall caused by a well-marked low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal has thrown normal life out of gear in Odisha.
Southern districts including Koraput, Malkangiri, and Nabarangpur are severely affected, while over 100 villages in the northern region remain cut off.
Jeypore recorded the state’s highest rainfall at 19 cm, with Koraput’s Boipariguda block alone receiving 306 mm, snapping road connectivity to Telangana and Chhattisgarh.
The IMD has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall across several districts over the next three days, though officials have ruled out any fresh flood threats from major rivers.
Water Resource Department Engineer-in-Chief CS Padhi said no fresh flood threat has been reported from other rivers across the state.
It would take some time for water to drain out from low-lying areas where inundation has occurred.
