Bhubaneswar, Aug 15: Ayushman Vay Vandana Yojana (AVVY) providing cashless treatment up to Rs.5 lakhs per family to all senior citizens (70 and above years of age) irrespective of their economic category has brought smiles on the face of elderly persons and their family members.
The innovative helath assurance scheme has emerged as a boon and a savior for scores of elderly persons.
One sasmita Sahoo daughter of Shyam Sundar Sahoo (72), a resident of Rangamatia village under Mancahswar Police limit, Bhubaneswar says,”We are from a lower-class family. The meager earning of my brother from a private firm does not allow us to save money for treatment or future need.
All on a sudden my father suffered from severe chest pain at home on 12th of current month (August). We became helpless. At that crucial hour, the AVVY card gave us the hope. We quickly took him to Apollo hospital, Bhubaneswar without any money in our pocket for treatment. The only strength was the AVVY card.
The doctors in the hospital immediately diagnosed to him suffering from coronary heart blockage, and there he got a prompt treatment with successful coronary angiogram and stent implant in the heart. The entire treatment was done totally free of cost. This was possible because of AVVY enrollment number that we recently got through village level functionaries of Health & Family Welfare Department, Govt. of Odisha.”
Susmita further added, “Due to AVVY scheme, we could be able to get back the life our father. We express our gratitude to our Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi for starting this life saving scheme”.
Not only Sahoo, many senior citizens of Odisha are being provided with cashless treatment under VVY since its roll out in Odisha on 12th April, 2025.
Available information shows, within last four months more than 9700 elderly persons have been treated and cured free of cost in private sector hospitals. The scheme is gaining rapid popularity in the State. So far, more than 5.63 lakh senior citizens have already been registered through online platform of the scheme i.e. http://beneficiary.nha.gov.in
