Operation DRISHTI: Armed Forces Medical team treats over 4,000 patients at Rairangpur mega medical camp

Rairangpur, November 4: Bringing advanced healthcare closer to rural communities, the Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) has provided free medical treatment to more than 4,000 patients at the 12th edition of Operation DRISHTI, a Mega Multi-Speciality Medical Camp organised at Rairangpur in Mayurbhanj district.

Doctors, dental surgeons and paramedical personnel from the Armed Forces Medical Services attended to patients across multiple specialities. Every patient who reported at the camp received on-site medical attention free of cost.

The initiative brought specialist healthcare to the doorstep of the people of Rairangpur, the hometown of President Droupadi Murmu.

In a significant expansion of its earlier mega surgical eye camps, Operation DRISHTI at Rairangpur adopted a multi-speciality format, bringing together Ophthalmology, Cardiology, Nephrology, Dermatology, Dental and General Medicine services under one roof.

The medical camp recorded substantial patient turnout across departments. Cardiology specialists examined more than 400 patients and conducted 298 ECGs and 406 echocardiograms. As many as 29 patients requiring advanced medical intervention were identified and referred for procedures including angiography, CT angiography, valve surgery, device implantation and balloon pulmonary valvotomy.

The Nephrology department treated over 400 patients and conducted 341 ultrasound examinations, while the Dermatology team provided treatment to more than 500 patients. The Dental department attended to 221 patients and performed 198 procedures. Meanwhile, the General Medicine department treated 339 patients.

Air Marshal Sandeep Thareja, Director General of Armed Forces Medical Services (DGAFMS), visited the mega medical camp on Wednesday. During his visit, he interacted with patients and reviewed the healthcare services being provided by the medical teams.

Beyond the impressive figures, the camp also brought renewed hope to patients who had struggled to access specialised medical care. The 365 eye surgeries performed during the camp represent not just medical achievements but also life-changing experiences for beneficiaries, some of whom had almost given up hope of regaining their eyesight.

Operation DRISHTI has emerged as an important healthcare outreach initiative of the Armed Forces Medical Services, taking advanced ophthalmic care to underserved regions across the country. Its previous editions have covered locations ranging from Dehradun and Jaipur to Bagdogra and the border areas of Jammu and Kashmir.

The Rairangpur edition marks another significant milestone in this journey, extending the initiative beyond eye care to comprehensive multi-speciality medical services in the remote villages and forested regions of Mayurbhanj.
