Manisha Kalyan Dreams of World Cup Glory
Trailblazing Indian footballer Manisha Kalyan, the only woman from the country to have played in the UEFA Champions League, has shared her ultimate ambition: to represent India at the FIFA World Cup and the Olympics. Speaking at a youth football event, the 23-year-old star expressed how the national team's recent qualification for the AFC Women's Asian Cup has strengthened her belief in these lofty goals.
Inspiring the Next Generation
Manisha was the guest of honour at the ASMITA under-13 league for girls in Guwahati, a platform she described as crucial for young girls to realize their football dreams. She encouraged the participants to work hard and take advantage of the growing opportunities. "I am still dreaming of playing in the FIFA World Cup and the Olympics," she told the young players, emphasizing that their belief should be just as strong.
Highlighting the rich pool of talent in the North-East, Manisha pointed out that 11 of her senior national teammates hail from the region. She celebrated the success of two emerging players from Assam, Rekha Kataki and Dosomi Rowtia, who are both products of the ASMITA league.
Growing Ecosystem for Women's Football
Manisha's journey and her message come at a time when the ecosystem for women's football in India is showing positive signs of development. With increased government support, including the sports ministry's plan to add a NorthEast-specific Games to the Khelo India calendar, the pathway for aspiring young players is becoming clearer. Manisha's success on the international stage serves as a powerful inspiration, proving that with hard work and the right support, Indian players can compete at the highest levels of the sport.
