It is believed she first manifested from this treasury, solidifying her role as a bestower of prosperity and a protector of her people.
A Journey Through Time: From an Ancient Capital to a Modern Town
While the grand, pink-hued temple in Nabarangpur is the current center of worship, the story of Maa Bhandargharani begins elsewhere. Her original seat was in a much older, now dilapidated temple located in a village called Raja Jagannathpur, roughly 35 kilometers away. This village was once the capital of the region, established by King Jagannath Dev. This ancient site, nestled at the foot of a hill and surrounded by lush forests, is considered the deity's original home.
In 1832, a significant shift occurred when King Chaitanya Dev, the last of his royal line, decided to move the capital to the present-day Nabarangpur. Along with the administrative center, the sacred deity was also relocated. The current temple was built much later, around 2004-05, replacing a simpler thatched-roof structure. Despite the new location, the temple maintains its ancient rituals and reverence.
