OMC MD Reviews Key Iron Ore Mines
Shri Sudhansu Mohan Samal, the Managing Director of Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC), has completed a strategic review of the Gandhamardan and Daitari iron ore mines in Keonjhar district. The visit, focused on boosting production efficiency, enhancing safety, and reinforcing sustainable mining practices, was a clear signal of the new leadership's intent to modernize operations and align them with a long-term growth strategy.
Push for Production and Digital Upgrades
Accompanied by senior officials, including Director (HR) Shri Alok Kumar Pal and Director (Finance) Shri Bana Bihari Pani, the MD inspected key operational areas at both sites. At the Gandhamardan mines, he directed teams to scale up output by optimizing extraction processes to meet annual targets and ensure a steady supply of ore to industries. While reviewing the digital Control Command Centre, he acknowledged the existing surveillance systems but called for their further enhancement with advanced analytics to improve real-time monitoring and safety oversight. He also assessed employee welfare facilities, reaffirming OMC’s commitment to improving amenities for its workforce.
Focus on Modern and Sustainable Methods
The theme of modernization continued at the Daitari mines. Shri Samal stressed the need for advanced mechanization at the Ore Handling Plant to improve productivity and achieve greater efficiency. During his review of the Baliparbat Stockyard, he instructed the team to implement robust digital systems for better material tracking and grade segregation. At the Daitari Railway Siding, he emphasized the need for smoother logistics and faster loading of ore to reduce turnaround times and ensure timely delivery to customers.
Across both mining regions, the MD delivered a clear and consistent message. He highlighted that production growth must be balanced with strict environmental compliance, innovation, and a strong commitment to worker welfare. He encouraged the teams to adopt a results-driven approach that aligns with OMC's vision for responsible mining, sustainable development, and long-term value creation for Odisha. The visit was not just an inspection but a strategic directive to the ground-level teams to embrace technology and sustainability as the core pillars of future operations.
