Bhubaneswar, August 24: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a series of heavy rain warnings for Odisha on Sunday, forecasting wet conditions across the state for the next six days. The alerts come as a low-pressure area over West Jharkhand moved into northeast Madhya Pradesh, triggering widespread showers and thunderstorms.
Although the system is expected to weaken over the next 24 hours, the IMD predicts persistent rainfall activity across several districts until August 30.
According to the IMD’s mid-day weather bulletin, as of 8:30 am on Sunday, the low-pressure system was centered over northeast Madhya Pradesh and surrounding areas. It is supported by an upper air cyclonic circulation extending up to 7.6 km above mean sea level, tilting southward with height—a structure conducive to sustained rain. The system is projected to drift west-northwestwards and gradually lose strength.
