Ganjam, Feb 22: An angry mob vandalized a hospital in Ganjam on Thursday after an infant allegedly died during vaccination.
The incident took place at Buguda Community Health Centre (CHC) in the afternoon.
Sources said that Magi Naik’s five-month-old child died at home in Neliabandha sahi in Buguda hours after it was administered the vaccine at the CHC.
According to the allegation leveled by the parents of the deceased, their healthy baby was administered the vaccine on Wednesday morning. However, its body went chilled by the night. It was rushed to the hospital where the doctors declared it dead.
The bereaved family members alleged that the death was due to vaccination at the hospital.
Following the death, agitated family members, accompanied by the locals of Neliabandha blamed medical authorities and ransacked the hospital.
Hospital authorities with the help of police pacified the mob.
