Kolkata, June 3: The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has filed pleas in the Calcutta High Court against the Jagannath Dham Tag of the newly built Digha Jagannath Temple on Thursday.
The religious outfit has challenged the Dham tag, that’s been reflected in the temple’s signage board, that was installed after its consecration.
According to reports, the pleas have been admitted by the Calcutta HC, and is scheduled for hearing this week.
The has filed a public interest litigation in the Calcutta High Court, challenging the naming of a newly-consecrated Jagannath temple in West Bengal’s Digha as ‘Jagannath Dham’.
The petition has been admitted by a division bench, comprising Justices Soumen Sen and Smita Das.
Worth mentioning, the Digha temple is officially named the Shree Jagannath Dham Cultural Centre.
Opposing the name, the VHP pleads that, as per Hindu tradition & scriptures, only the four temples i.e Badrinath, Rameswaram, Dwarka, and Puri are called Chaturdhams that is 4-Dhams, not any temple elsewhere.
Apart from the VHP, the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration and Prime Servitor of Lord Jagannath have unitedly objected the Digha Jagannath Temple as the Jagannath Dham.
