Kolkata, May 30:Trinamool Congress (TMC) National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee on Saturday launched a sharp attack on the BJP-led governments at the Centre and in West Bengal, alleging that multiple agencies are being used to target him politically.
Speaking to reporters in Kolkata, Banerjee claimed that the number of agencies pursuing him had increased significantly over the years, but asserted that he would not be pressured into submission.
“Earlier, it was only the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Now, the Bengal Police, Kolkata Police and Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) have also joined in. What was once two or three agencies has now become five,” he said.
The TMC leader alleged that attempts were being made to intimidate him through multiple investigations, but maintained that he would not yield to such pressure.
“They believe that by sending five or six agencies after me, they can force me to back down. That is not who I am. Even if you cut my throat or do whatever you want, you cannot make me surrender. You would have to think ten times and take seven births to make me cower. I am not a traitor,” Banerjee remarked.
Responding to questions regarding a recently filed FIR against him, Banerjee said authorities were required to serve him a notice in person and claimed officials had initially gone to the wrong location.
“I had made it clear through the media that if anyone wanted to serve me a notice, I was available here. They had gone elsewhere because they apparently did not know where I lived,” he said.
The remarks came after the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of West Bengal served a notice to Banerjee, directing him to appear before officials at Bhabani Bhawan, the state police headquarters, at noon on June 1.
