Puri, Aug 8: Speculation is rife that former law minister Maheswar Mohanty is pushing for the candidature of his son Sunil for the Puri assembly constituency in 2024
Sunil Mohanty has entered into active politics after his father's close aide Jayanta Sarangi won the seat with a margin of over 4,000 votes on the BJP ticket.
Earlier, Maheswar won the seat continuously five times from 1995 till 2014.
Jayanta managed to capture the BJD dissidents and the BJP cadre votes helped him to win the seat amidst a tough fight from the veteran BJD leader.
The BJD is making its strategy to again win the seat. While state vice-president of Biju Yuva Janata Dal (BYJD) Subhasish Khuntia is strengthening his organization, Mohanty is gathering his old disciples to support his son Sunil's candidature.
Maheswar Mohanty is a household name in the constituency as a leader for over 25 years having pocket votes which will help in shaping the political career of his son.
If BJD denies him the party ticket, other leading parties will not miss the opportunity to field Sunil in the constituency.
