Bhubaneswar, July 25: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Thursday allocated Rs 1000 crore for the Bhubaneswar metro rail project in the annual Budget for 2024-25 financial year.
The metro rail project was announced by former Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on the occasion of Utkal Dibas (April 1) last year. Patnaik had laid the foundation stone for the first phase of the project at Ratagada near Trisulia in Cuttack on January 1 this year.
In the first phase, the metro rail project will connect Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) in Bhubaneswar with Trisulia Square.
The first phase project will cover 26 km and include 20 stations: Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA), Capital Hospital, Sishu Bhawan, Bapuji Nagar, Bhubaneswar Railway Station, Ram Mandir Square, Vani Vihar, Acharya Vihar Square, Jaydev Vihar Square, Xavier Square, Rail Sadan, District Centre, Damana Square, Patia Square, KIIT Square, Nandan Vihar, Raghunathpur, Nandankanan Zoological Park, Phulapokhari, and Trisulia Square.
The state government will carry out the project at an expenditure of Rs 6,255 crore. Bhubaneswar Metro Rail Corporation has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Delhi Metro Rail Corporation for the project, which is expected to be completed within four years.
