Bhubaneswar, July 26: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Thursday fined Rs 1.4 lakh on four hotels for serving stale food.

A special team of BMC conducted raids in several hotels of the city acting on inputs that some prominent hotels are selling stale foods and not maintaining hygiene in food preparation.

The team fined Rs 40,000 to a hotel in Ashok Nagar area, Rs 25,000 to a hotel in Nayapalli and Rs 20 on a hotel in Master Canteen.

Similarly, the BMC collected Rs 55,000 fine from a hotel in Patia area. The team also seized the stale foods.

The hotels were not following waste management guidelines and dumping the waste in drains after grinding. These hotels have been issued show cause notice and asked to reply within three days, said a BMC official.

A team of officials from BMC’s South-East Zone along with a squad of the state pollution control board (OSPCB) and food safety officials carried out the raids.
