Navi Mumbai, July 27: In a tragic incident on Saturday morning, a three-storey building collapsed in Navi Mumbai's Shahbaz village, with two persons feared trapped under the rubble.
The collapse occurred around 5 am, according to Kailas Shinde, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation commissioner. "This is a G+3 building. Shahbaz village falls under the Belapur ward. There were 13 flats in the building. Two persons have been rescued, and two are likely trapped. NDRF teams are at the spot, and a rescue operation is underway," Shinde reported.
The rescued individuals have been admitted to a hospital, where their condition is said to be stable. Shinde also noted that the building was 10 years old, and an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the collapse. "Action will be taken against the owner of the building," he added.
This incident comes just a week after another tragedy in Mumbai, where an 80-year-old woman was killed, and four others were injured when a portion of a balcony of a four-storey residential building in South Mumbai's Sleater Road area collapsed. The accident at Rubinnisa Manzil occurred around 11 am, highlighting ongoing concerns about the structural integrity of older buildings in the region.
