Bhubaneswar, July 16: Online booking of a Russian girl for romance in absence of family members has cost Rs 19 lakh to a junior engineer of Odisha Works Department.
The victim aged around 45-year had brought a girl to his official residence in Bhubaneswar on Saturday in absence of family members at Rs 18,000 through an online escort service app.
On Sunday, he tried to book a Russian girl for night on the website and contacted with a girl of his choice on WhatsApp number provided on the website. However, the girl said that she was already engaged for the next five days. She also asked to book in advance to spend time with her after five days. However, the junior engineer forced her to cancel her prior booking and join him.
The girl demanded him extra money for cancelling her prior booking and sent a link for deposit of advance payment.
The victim filled his details opening the link and deposited Rs 55,000 as advance payment. After some time, the girl asked him for booking OTP sent to his mobile number. The engineer got debited Rs 18.52 lakh within 10 minutes of sharing the OTP. When he contacted the Russian girl, her mobile was switched off.
The junior engineer filed a complaint at Bhubaneswar Cyber Police Station on Monday alleging that Rs 19 lakh got debited from his bank account automatically. Police got suspicious and started interrogating him when the victim narrated about the online fraud.
