Puri, May 16: In a shocking incident, a youth was brutally hacked to death over the plucking of green coconuts in Baselisahi area of Odisha’s Puri district.
The deceased has been identified as Kuna Behera and the incident has been reported from Mashanichandi Sahi area under Baselisahi police limits in the district.
As per reports, the accused, identified as Lipun Bhoi along with some other people broke into Kuna’s house and hacked him to death with sharp weapons while he was sleeping.
Upon getting the information, Baselisahi police rushed to the spot and seized the victim’s body. Subsequently, it was sent for post-mortem.
According to sources, a fight broke out between Kuna and Lipun over picking green coconuts. Earlier, they had also fought over a land issue.
Lipun, the main suspect, is said to have killed Kuna with the help of others while Kuna was asleep at home.
The shocking incident has caused panic in the area, and police forces have been mobilized in the village to avoid any untoward incident.
Further investigation into the matter was underway.
