Bhubaneswar, August 10: Koraput will soon get an advanced cancer hospital, with the Odisha government sanctioning ₹41.15 crore for its construction on a two-acre plot beside Saheed Laxman Nayak Medical College and Hospital (SLNMCH).
Announcing this on Sunday, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi also inaugurated a 650-bed facility at SLNMCH, built at a cost of ₹280 crore.
Majhi said the new hospital will benefit patients from Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada, and neighbouring states, reducing the need for travel for treatment. He highlighted plans to fill all vacant healthcare posts, construct a six-lane road along the Jeypore–Berhampur–Bhubaneswar corridor, and set up four more medical colleges in Odisha.
The CM emphasised his government’s focus on healthcare and education, citing progress under Ayushman Bharat and Gopabandhu Jana Arogya Yojana, and reiterated his vision to build a “Samruddha Odisha” by 2036 and make the state a leader in a developed India by 2047.
