Bhubaneswar, Aug 10: In a shocking incident, a newly-married woman was found hanging at her in-laws’ house in Dhirukuti Sahi under Mancheswar police limits in Bhubaneswar on Sunday.

The deceased has been identified as Tripti Nayak, daughter of Subash Nayak from Andharua village in Bhubaneswar.

Though the exact reason behind her death is yet to be ascertained, her family members alleged that Tripti was murdered in a pre-planned manner by her in-laws, who then tried to make it appear as a suicide.

They also alleged that she had been facing constant harassment over dowry demands.

Based on a written complaint by the victim’s family, Mancheswar police registered a case of murder and arrested her husband, Bikram Nayak. Her in-laws were also detained for questioning.

The case has been registered under Sections 85 (cruelty by husband or his relatives) and 103(1) (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

A thorough investigation has been initiated into the matter, said the police.
