Odisha athletes Animesh, Prangya shines in World Continental tour

Bhubaneswar: Local athletes Animesh Kujur and Prangya Prasanti Sahu made the host state Odisha proud by winning a gold medals each in the men’s 200m and women’s 100m hurdles clocking 20,77 and 13.74 sec respectively in the World Continental Tour Bronze at Kalinga Stadium here on Sunday. Another local athlete Lalu Prasad Bhou finished fourth in the men’s 100m race.

The 32 years old experienced javelin thrower Anu Rani from Uttar Pradesh proved her consistency by claiming the gold medal with a distance of 62.01m.

Annu Rani who won the gold medal in the women’s javelin throw with a 69.92m throw at the Asian Games 2023 in Hangzhou. After a gap of two years, she is crossing the 60m mark regularly.

Annu said “I am happy with my performance today, though my first throw was 52.74m, but gradually in my fourth attempt I touched 62.01m. My 60m-plus throw earlier this week (August 6) in Europe has given a big boost to my confidence. In the Continental Tour I had crossed the 60m mark twice it added to my confidence. I never witnessed such an electrifying atmosphere, these crowds at Kalinga Stadium gave a different feeling of athletic events in India”.   

Indian’s both the promising long jumper Sreeshankar M and Shaili Singh won gold medal each in the men’s and women’s long jump events with a distance of 8.13m and 6.28m respectively.

Results: Men’s 100m : Bin Mohd Azeem (Malaysia) 10.35 sec, Chamod M Yodhasinghe (Sri Lanka) 10.43 sec, Danish Iftikhar (Malaysia) 10.50 sec.

Women’s 100m: Abinaya Rajarajan 11.57 sec, Sneha SS 11.70 sec, Nithya Gandhe 11.70 sec.

Men' 200m: Animesh Kujur 20.77 sec, Ko Seunghwan (Republic of Koreaa) 20.95, Ragul Kumar 21.17 sec.  

Women’s 200m: Angle Silvia 23.95 sec, Nithya Gandhe 24.11 sec,, Unnathi Aiyappa 24.56 sec.

Women' 100m Hurdles: Prangya Prasanti Sahu 13.74 sec, Nandhini Kongan 13.80, Anjali C 14.00 sec.

Men’s 400m : T K Vishal 45.72 sec, Amol Jacob 45.86 sec, Santosh Kumar 46.89 sec.

Women’s 400m : Vijayakumari G K 53.04 sec, Devyaniba Mahendrasingh 53.87 sec, Louise Evans (Great Britain) 54.28 sec.

Men’s 800m : Mohammad Afsal 1:46.60, Prakash Gadade 1:47.14, Krishna Kumar 1:48.00.

Men’s 5000m: Waberi Igueh (Djibouti) 14:05.36, Abhishek Pal 14:10.60, Sawan Barwal 14:13,41.

Men’ 4X400m : Sri Lanka 3:08.22, India-A 3:08.37, Iraq 3:08.74.

Men’s Long jump: Sreeshankar M 8,13m, Shahnav Khan 8.04m, Lokesh Sathyanathan 7.85m.   

Men’s Triple Jump: Abdulla Aboobacker 16.53m, Karthik Unnikrishnan 16.42sec, Gailey Venister 16.26m.

Women’s 800m: Amandeep Kaur 2:04.31, Huidrom Bhumeshwory 2:06.96, Sankeertana Thota 2:07.17.

Women’s 1500m: Puja 4:15.13, Lili Das 4:17.66, Amandeep Kaur 4:27.14.

Women’s Long jump: Shaili Singh 6.28m, Bhavani Yadav 6.13m, Sandra Babu 6.10m.

Women’s Javelin: Anu Rani 62.01m, Hatarabag Lekamalage (Sri Lanka) 56.27m, Deepika 54.20m.

Men' Javelin: Rumesh Tharanga (Sri lanka) 86.50m, Shivam Lohakare 80.73m, Sumedha J Ranasinghe (Sri lanka) 80.65m,
