Balasore, Aug 10:While frequent rape and self-immolation of girl students are on the rise, an attempt to rape a Class-IX girl in Odisha’s Balasore on Sunday yet raised people’s eyebrows.
However, the case before reaching out police, angry mob thrashed the youth black & blue and set his bike ablaze.
The incident took place in the Antara area under the Simulia police limit this afternoon.
According to reports, the Class-IX girl was returning home from tuition. Meanwhile, one Prasanta Kumar Samal(24) attempted to rape the girl in a secluded place beside a canal. Worried on the girl’s delay in reaching home, family members initiated a frantic search wherein she was rescued in a distressed condition.With the locals’ presence on the scene the accused youth was fleeing who was intercepted from a pond.
Later, the aggrieved mob fastened him with a tree, thrashed in full public view and set his bike on fire.
On being informed, the Simulia Police rushed to the spot and rescued him from the crowd.
On the other hand, the survivor was sent to the Hospital for medical examinations.
