IMD forecasts low pressure over Bay of Bengal on August 13, heavy rain likely in Odisha

Bhubaneswar, August 10: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted the formation of a low-pressure area over the northwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal (BoB) around August 13, 2025. The system is expected to trigger widespread rain across Odisha, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching speeds of 30–40 km/h.

 As a precaution, the IMD has issued multiple weather alerts for the state:

 August 11: Yellow warning for heavy rain in Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, and Nabarangpur.

 August 12: Yellow warning extended to Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, and other districts.

 August 13: Orange warning (heavy to very heavy rain) for Kandhamal, Rayagada, Gajapati, and Koraput; Yellow warning for several neighbouring districts.

 Similar orange and yellow alerts are likely to continue from August 14 to 16 in different regions of the state.

 In addition, fishermen have been advised to avoid venturing into the sea along and off the south Odisha coast during August 13–14 due to rough conditions.
