Karnal (Haryana), November 5: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday accepted Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi’s challenge for a debate, while urging him to take up substantive issues for discussion in Parliament.
Addressing a large gathering during the BJP’s ‘Save Democracy, Remove Anarchy’ foot march in Karnal, Shah challenged Gandhi to engage in a meaningful and fact-based discussion within Parliament.
“If you wish to have a responsible discussion and believe your concerns have truth, substance and logic, come and discuss them inside Parliament. Let’s face each other head-on! However, you will not be able to handle the answers and, as always, will run away,” Shah said.
Dismissing the opposition’s public demonstrations as political gimmicks, Shah said the government was prepared to convene a special session of Parliament to address any concerns raised by the Congress, provided the party followed the appropriate constitutional procedure.
“I want to challenge Rahul Gandhi directly. You challenge Prime Minister Narendra Modi to a discussion? If you want a discussion, write a letter to the Prime Minister. We are ready to convene a special session of Parliament to discuss the SIR exercise,” he stated.
Shah also asserted that the BJP was prepared to take on the opposition at every political level, from Parliament and state Legislative Assemblies to villages and agricultural fields.
“Do you really believe that an 80-year-old democracy will fall for your deceptions? Rahul ji, we are people of the streets. The BJP will give you a fitting response in Parliament, in Legislative Assemblies, in villages and in our fields. If you choose to mobilise crowds, BJP workers will also be there to respond,” he said.
Describing the ‘Save Democracy, Remove Anarchy’ campaign as a strong political response to Rahul Gandhi and the opposition, Shah said the BJP would continue to challenge their claims through both parliamentary debates and grassroots mobilisation.
Earlier, Shah received a warm welcome upon his arrival in Karnal from Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and other senior BJP leaders. The statewide campaign witnessed significant participation from party workers, reflecting the BJP’s intensified political outreach in the region. Chief Minister Saini also joined the foot march.
