Odisha faces thunderstorm warnings with gusty surface winds hitting coastal districts soon

Odisha expects imminent thunderstorms with steady temperatures continuing statewide

Meteorological officials have issued a yellow warning for isolated thunderstorms and lightning across multiple districts in Odisha. Gusty surface winds reaching speeds of 30 to 40 kilometres per hour will affect coastal and southern areas. These alerts cover districts including Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Kataka (Cuttack), Khordha, and Puri, remaining valid until tomorrow morning. Residents in these vulnerable coastal belts frequently navigate unpredictable pre-winter weather shifts during October. Local authorities advise people in the affected regions to stay indoors when dark clouds gather.

Forecast Shows Steady Temperatures

Weather patterns show stability in thermal conditions across the state. Officials forecast no significant changes in maximum or minimum temperatures for the next six to seven days. Bargarh recorded the highest daytime heat over the past 24 hours, peaking at 35.0 degrees Celsius. Phulbani registered the lowest nighttime temperature at 19.5 degrees Celsius. Twin cities Bhubaneswar and Kataka (Cuttack) both noted a maximum temperature of 33.2 degrees Celsius. Minimum temperatures in Bhubaneswar stood at 24.6 degrees Celsius, while Kataka (Cuttack) dropped slightly lower to 22.6 degrees Celsius.

Tracking Recent Rainfall Activity

Rainfall has already impacted several southern regions over the last day. Digapahandi in Ganjam district received the highest precipitation, recording 54.0 millimetres. Odagaon in Nayagarh followed closely with 47.5 millimetres of rain. Krishnaprasad in Puri also gathered a significant 40.0 millimetres of rainfall. Other notable locations like Sankheimundi and Baripada recorded 38.0 and 35.0 millimetres respectively. Forecasters indicate that light to moderate rain will continue spreading across most northern and interior districts over the coming days. Maps show dry conditions prevailing only in a few western pockets like Nuapada, Balangir, and Bargarh. Officials urge residents in warning zones to monitor local updates closely and avoid taking shelter under tall trees during severe lightning strikes. This weather system requires careful observation to prevent any accidental harm to local communities.
