Mumbai: Actor Imran Khan has received support from fans on social media after Mumbai Police directed him to leave India by October 28 for participating in a protest demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Several fans praised the actor for joining the demonstration, with some social media users describing him as ‘Pookie turned Krantikari’.
Khan, a US citizen who holds an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card, participated in a gathering at Mumbai's August Kranti Maidan on October 10 in support of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP). He was among hundreds of people detained by police during the demonstration and was subsequently released.
The actor's participation has drawn renewed attention following the police notice, issued under the Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025. Authorities said action was initiated because he took part in the protest despite being a foreign national. The notice requires him to leave the country by October 28.
Khan had also attracted attention during his detention after sharing a photograph from inside a police van with the caption, “Apparently I'm going for a drive.”

The protest called for Gyanesh Kumar's resignation amid concerns raised by demonstrators over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The CJP and its supporters have questioned the voter-list revision exercise, while the Election Commission has faced criticism over the process.
The development has brought the actor's participation in public demonstrations and the rules governing political activities by foreign nationals in India into focus.
