New Delhi, Feb 2: Justice Chakradhari Sharan Singh, Judge, Patna High Court has been appointed as the Chief Justice of Orissa High Court.
Justice Singh was elevated as an additional judge of the Patna High Court with effect from April 5, 2012. He was appointed as Acting Chief Justice of the Patna High Court in February last year.
The President of India, after consultation with the Chief Justice of India, appointed Justice Singh as the Chief Justice of Orissa High Court on Friday.
Union Minister of State (I/C) for Law & Justice, Parliamentary Affairs and Culture Arjun Ram Meghwal shared the notification on X.
Meghwal wrote, the Supreme Court on November 2, last year had recommended the elevation of Patna High Court judge Justice Chakradhari Sharan Singh as Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court.
The post of Orissa High Court Chief Justice was lying vacant following the retirement of Chief Justice Subhasis Talapatra from October 3, 2023.
The Collegium found Justice Singh fit and suitable for the appointment of Orissa High Court Chief Justice. The apex court picked his name considering his contribution to the Indian judiciary, professionalism, ethics and integrity.
Justice Singh was enrolled as an Advocate in 1990 after obtaining an LL.B. degree from the University of Delhi (Campus Law Centre). He was designated Senior Advocate in September 2010 and was appointed as Additional Advocate General for Bihar in December, 2010.
