Keonjhar, April 30: Special Judge of Vigilance, Keonjhar on Tuesday convicted the Ex-NREGA Assistant of Saharpada block in Keonjhar district for demanding and accepting bribe from a complainant.
The accused who has been identified as Lalit Kumar Mohanta was earlier charge sheeted by Odisha Vigilance in Balasore Vigilance for accepting a bribe amount of Rs 10,000 from a complainant to facilitate issue of work order in his favour for execution of the work under MGNREGA Scheme.
For this offence, the Court has sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 4 years and fine of Rs.2,000 and in default of payment of fine, to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for a period of 2 months more. The Court further sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 3 years and fine of Rs.2,000/- and in default of payment of fine, to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for a period of 2 months more.
Both the sentences are to run concurrently. Today Mohanta was sent to jail custody to serve his sentence.
