Sambalpur, Feb 21: Sambalpur forest officials have recovered an elephant carcass from the Jamankira forest range under the Bamara division on Wednesday.

Though the reason behind the elephant’s death is yet to be ascertained, the 7-8 year old pachyderm is suspected to be killed for internal combat in the herd, forest sources said.

According to the reports, the carcass of the young elephant calf was spotted late night on Tuesday by the locals of Sarada village under the foothill of Baliama hill. Being informed, the range officials visited the spot and recovered the decomposed carcass of the elephant.

Following this, the post-mortem of the remnants was carried out as a part of investigation, by a team of livestock doctors.
