Nabarangpur, Feb 22: Odisha also needs a double-engine government and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will form the government in the state this time, said Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday.

While attending a program at Nabarangpur during his one-day Odisha trip, Singh launched an attack on the Congress and said that despite being in power for a long time, the Congress could not eliminate poverty from India. But Prime Minister Narendra Modi made the poor people self-reliant by implementing several developmental and welfare schemes.

Now the Congress has government in only two or three states. People of the country have this faith that if any party can give better governance, then it is the BJP, said the Union Minister.

In terms of GDP, India was at number 11. Now, with the efforts of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the country has made significant growth and climbed to the fifth position. It is also being estimated that India’s GDP will likely overtake Japan and Germany and touch $5 trillion dollars making it the 3rd largest economy in the world, Singh added.

He asked the BJP workers present in the program to work for at least 12 hours a day for the party and to convey the welfare schemes of the Center to the public. He further said that the BJP has fulfilled all the promises made by it before the elections and the people of the country have faith that PM Modi will fulfill the remaining promises in the third term.

Odisha State BJP President Manmohan Samal, state spokesperson Sajjan Sharma, Kalahandi MP Basanta Panda, Balangir MP Sangeeta Singhdeo and over two thousand party workers from Balangir, Kalahandi, Koraput and Nabarangpur Lok Sabha constituencies attended the program.

Notably, Singh will arrive in Baripada at around 4 pm today and is scheduled to address the workers and activists of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Baleswar and Bhadrak parliamentary constituencies.

Two-tier security arrangements have been arranged for the Union Minister's visit. A total of nine platoons of police, 32 inspectors, four DSPs and two additional SPs have been mobilized by the district police.
