Bargarh (Odisha), Aug 30: Three own goals ended Mayurbhanj's campaign in the ongoing Senior Women's Inter District Football Championship for PC Behera Trophy 2024, here.
The quarterfinal match between Jagatsinghpur and Mayurbhanj resulted in a 4-0 result. Jagatsinghpur stormed into the semifinals and will play Cuttack. The other semifinal will be played between title favourites Keonjhar and spirited Kendrapara.
Of the four goals scored in the Jagatsinghpur-Mayurbhanj quarterfinal, the winners only scored a solitary goal. For Jagatsinghpur, Anjela Mundary netted the first goal of the contest in the 4th minute of first half.
The other three goals were results of poor soccer and misunderstanding between Mayurbhanj players.
After Jagatsinghpur took the lead in the 4th minute, in the first half itself, Mayurbhanj conceded their first self goal through Malati Naik in the 33rd minute.
The first half ended at 1-1 score-line. After the interval, Jagatsinghpur attacked Mayurbhanj post repeatedly. The losers eventually inflicted two more own goals through Manjari Naik (57th minute) and Reena Singh (82nd minute).
While elated Jagatsinghpur women celebrated their semi-final entry, Mayurbhanj with three own goals were forced to blame themselves for poor football, weak game plan and lack of coordination among players.
