Bhubaneswar, July 18: In a gruesome incident, a youth allegedly beat his friend to death following a dispute over the division of stolen money in the Bharatpur area of Bhubaneswar late last night.
The deceased, identified as Kailash Nayak, was a native of Buguda town in Ganjam district and earned a living by painting buildings.
As per reports, the gruesome killing took place in Somnath slum under Bharatpur police limits. Kailash and his friend had carried out a loot in the area. After the theft, they drank alcohol together after dinner. However, they began arguing about how to divide the stolen money.
The argument quickly escalated, and took a violent turn when Kailash's friend, in fit of rage suddenly started attacking him. He bludgeoned him repeatedly with a stone leading to his death on the spot.
In the morning, Kailash was found dead in a pool of blood at his rented accommodation in the slum, where he lived with his mother and the friend who allegedly killed him.
Upon getting the information, police arrived at the scene and seized the body. Subsequently, it was sent for post-mortem.
Authorities confirmed that Kailash had six criminal cases pending against him.
An investigation has been launched into the matter. Efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the accused, said the police.
