Woman scientist from Odisha Dr Swati Nayak to receive Norman Borlaug Field Award

Bhubaneswar, Sept. 20: A woman scientist from Odisha is going to be conferred the Norman Borlaug Field Award-2023.

World Food Prize Foundation (IOWA, USA) announced on 19th September 2023 at New York Climate Week that Odia scientist Dr Swati Nayak as the recipient of the prestigious Norman Borlaug Field Award, 2023.

This highly prestigious and global award and honour by the World Food Prize Foundation is given to exceptional scientists under 40 years of age for phenomenal contributions to the field of food and nutrition security, hunger eradication and for exhibiting the character and attributes of Nobel Peace Prize Laureate and Green Revolution’s Chief Architect Dr. Norman Borlaug.

Dr Nayak is currently working as a scientist with Manila-based CGIAR- International Rice Research Institute.  She is native to the state of Odisha in India and the daughter of Laxmidhar Nayak and Bijayalaxmi Naik who reside in Bhubaneswar. 

“I dedicate this award to thousands of agriculture extensionists, change agents, and specifically young women scientists who work in the field and remain committed towards the betterment of smallholder farmers, rural population, and their livelihood”, said Dr. Nayak.

She will be receiving this award during the week of October 22nd – 28th at IOWA, USA, where various mega events happening on the eve of World Food Prize Week and International Borlaug Dialogue.
