Bhubaneswar, April 8: The Utkal University administration has closed the Godabarisha hostel premises for renovation. However, no initiative has been taken for its repair after one year.
The hostel established in 1977 needs repair and restoration as concrete debris are falling from its roof and the roof is soaking water following which the university administration decided to renovate the four decade old building.
The administration closed the hostel before beginning of the new academic session. Cracks have developed in the roof and walls with growing of small plants on the rooftop. However, no initiative has been taken for restoration of the building, said a student.
The hostel has 190 rooms for inmates. PG second year students are allotted single room in the hostel for better study. Now, PG second year students are being accommodated in other hostels and four to five students are staying in one room, several students alleged.
Similarly, several rooms of Fakir Mohan hostel have been closed by the administration.
