Athmallik, June 24: After Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, and Jajpur, Angul’s Athmallik has come under the clutches of diarrhoea.
At least 34 people have fallen ill after consuming food at a wedding feast in Tusar panchayat under Athmallik block of Angul district. The incident sparked health concerns in the region, prompting swift action from medical authorities.
According to health officials, 20 of the affected individuals were initially treated at the nearby Madhapur Health Centre. The remaining patients were referred to hospitals in Athmallik and Angul for further treatment.
The situation has been confirmed by a senior health official and stated that two medical teams from Athmallik and Angul rushed to Tusar village upon receiving the report. The teams examined the patients and returned after conducting preliminary investigations.
The Angul medical team also collected water samples from village wells, ponds, and tube wells for laboratory testing to identify the source of the contamination.
In response to the outbreak, the local administration has implemented extensive preventive measures in the village. Medical officials stated that the situation is currently under control.
Sarpanch of the village expressed hope that the situation would be brought under complete control soon, assuring residents of necessary support.
