Keonjhar, June 24: In a tragic incident, at least one person was killed and 13 others sustained critical injuries after a wedding party bus collided with a stationary truck late last night near Kandra Toll Plaza on NH-520 under Joda police limits in Keonjhar.
According to sources, the deceased has been identified as the bus driver's helper.
The incident took place while returning from a wedding feast of one Sulekha Nayak, daughter of Bharat Nayak from Balita village under Joda police limits.
As per the sources, over 50 family members travelled on a private bus named 'Subhasini' to Joda for the wedding. After the party, while returning late at night, the bus rammed into a parked truck shortly after crossing the Kandra Toll Plaza, killing the helper and injuring 13 people in the bus.
Being informed, Joda police and fire brigade personnel immediately rushed to the spot and rescued the injured, shifting them to the nearby Basudevpur Community Healthcare Centre.
Following the incident, the bus driver reportedly fled the scene.
Joda police have launched an investigation into the accident and are trying to trace the absconding driver.
