Lucknow, May 24: In a rashful incident of the UP civic workers, a vegetable vendor was buried alive under sludge dumped by a sewer cleaning team on Saturday.
The incident took place in the Baradari area of Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh.
The deceased has been identified as Sunil Kumar Prajapati (45) from Shantipur.
According to SSP Anurag Arya, Prajapati was sleeping under a tree near a cemetery was buried alive after a sewer cleaning team dumped a pile of sludge on him.
A case has been registered at the Baradari police station against the accused civic workers based on a complaint lodged by the deceased's father, he added.
According to police, Sunil Kumar Prajapati (45) from Shantipur, who was allegedly in an inebriated state, was resting under the shade of a tree near his house on Thursday afternoon when a team of civic workers led by Naem emptied a tractor-trolley filled with sludge on him, the officer said.
The tractor-trolley driver apparently failed to notice Prajapati, the SSP added.
On being informed, he was rescued from the spot by locals in a critical condition and rushed to the hospital for resuscitation. However, he was no more then.
Apart from the Police, Municipal Commissioner Sanjeev Kumar Maurya ordered a probe into the matter, said sources.
