Bhubaneswar, Oct 27: Land and property registration in Odisha is set to become simpler and more citizen-friendly with the proposed implementation and modernisation of the National Generic Document Registration System (NGDRS).
A high-level meeting was held at Lok Seva Bhawan under the chairmanship of Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari to discuss the implementation and modernisation of NGDRS in the state. Officials from the Software Development Unit (SDU) of the National Informatics Centre (NIC), Pune, participated in the discussions.
The meeting focused on making the registration process more transparent, efficient and accessible through digital technology. Officials discussed improving public services, enhancing the efficiency of registration offices and ensuring greater transparency and accountability in administrative work.
NGDRS is a national initiative launched by the Government of India to modernise document registration. Based on the concept of ‘One Nation, One Registration’, the digital platform can be adapted to the requirements and regulations of individual states.
Through the system, citizens can access several services online, including document preparation, property valuation, calculation of stamp duty and registration fees, online payments, appointment scheduling and application status tracking.
The digital system is expected to reduce repeated visits to registration offices, minimise errors and help prevent unnecessary delays.
The discussions also covered the integration of application verification, identity and biometric authentication, digital approval of documents, record management and post-registration services at sub-registrar offices.
Senior officials will also be able to monitor registration progress, pending cases and office-wise performance through digital dashboards.
Revenue and Disaster Management Department Additional Chief Secretary Dr Arvind Kumar Padhee, Inspector General of Registration P. Anwesha Reddy and NIC Pune Deputy Director General Rajesh Bhusari were among those present at the meeting.
The proposed initiative aims to make land and property registration more convenient for citizens while improving the overall efficiency of the registration administration.
