Rayagada, June 7: A fierce exchange of fire between security forces and Maoists erupted once again inside the Indravati National Park, located along the Malkangiri-Chhattisgarh border in Bijapur district. During the encounter, three Maoists were gunned down, and security forces recovered AK-47 rifles and a large cache of explosives from the site.
This fresh encounter follows a similar operation on Friday, in which Bastar Inspector General of Police, Sundarraj P., confirmed the death of Telangana’s most wanted Maoist leader, Malirapu Adallu alias Bhaskar.
Intelligence inputs had indicated the presence of a large number of Maoists taking shelter within the dense forests of Indravati National Park. Acting on this information, security forces launched a joint operation involving the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
The area has been a Maoist stronghold and the focus of recent intensified operations. Notably, the region had earlier witnessed the elimination of Central Committee member Sudhakar, prompting renewed efforts to dismantle the Maoist network entrenched in the area.
Security operations continue as forces comb through the forest in pursuit of remaining insurgents.
