Puri, June 24: The three chariots of the sibling deities from the Jagannath Temple in Puri will be pulled starting at 5 PM during this year’s Rath Yatra, as rituals for three major events must be performed on the same day.
The detailed schedule for the Rath Yatra on July 7 was outlined in a meeting of Chhatis Nijog (servitors’ body) and the Niti Sub-Committee of the temple management in Pilgrim Town on Monday. The final schedule will be announced after approval by the temple managing committee at a meeting on Tuesday.
This year's schedule mirrors the 1971 Rath Yatra when a similar situation occurred. Unusually, the festivals of Rath Yatra, Nabajouban Darshan, and Netrotsav will all be celebrated on the same day.
According to the schedule, the ritual of Angyamala from the temple will be omitted this time as well. The chariots of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Devi Subhadra will be taken directly from Ratha Khala (chariot-making workshop) to Singhadwar (Lions Gate) in front of the temple.
