Bhubaneswar, Aug 26: Odisha Excise officials and police on Monday raided a country liquor manufacturing unit in Saliasahi.
During the raid, they seized and destroyed a significant quantity of hooch, including several hundred litres of country liquor and the raw materials used for brewing.
Since the crackdown began last week, the Excise department has confiscated over 5,500 litres of country liquor and dismantled more than 100 illegal distilleries across the state. From August 20 to August 26, the department conducted 1,869 raids, filed numerous Excise cases, and arrested 1,154 individuals involved in illegal liquor production.
"The units were operating on government land, and we have a zero-tolerance policy towards such operations," the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) told reporters. "We will take decisive action to destroy all properties involved in illegal liquor manufacturing."
The DCP also emphasized that those engaged in the illegal trading of country liquor will be identified, and their connections, including those receiving the illicit alcohol, will be thoroughly investigated.
