Bhubaneswar, March 5: Chilika MLA Prasant Jagadev recently made headlines by joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), a move that follows his expulsion from the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) months earlier.
Jagadev's political journey has been marked by controversy, and now attention turns to which constituency he will vie for in the upcoming election.
Initially elected from the Begunia assembly seat in 2014 under the BJD banner, Jagadev was later relocated to the Chilika assembly constituency in 2019, securing victory once again as a BJD candidate. However, his tenure was marred by allegations of antisocial activities during the 2022 Panchayat elections, leading to his arrest and subsequent expulsion from the BJD.
Now aligned with the BJP, speculation swirls regarding Jagadev's potential contesting seats. There are rumors suggesting he may be fielded in either the Begunia or Khurdha assembly seat by the BJP in the upcoming election, with Khurdha being Jagadev's birthplace, adding an intriguing dimension to the speculation.
Following his BJP affiliation, Jagadev wasted no time in hitting the ground, visiting the Begunia assembly segment alongside BJP MP Aparajita Sarangi. His active participation in a public meeting at Badakumari panchayat in Bolagarh Block showcased his strengths. However, the question of which seat he will ultimately contest from in the upcoming election remains unanswered, adding an element of suspense to his political trajectory.
