Baripada, July 9: The construction of the Haldia Dam in Kuliana block of Mayurbhanj district has been successfully completed. Marking a significant milestone, water has been discharged for the first time through the newly developed spillway, built with advanced technology, following the end of the two-year-long construction project.
Amid ongoing rainfall triggered by a low-pressure system, the dam's water level has been steadily rising. Taking into account the reservoir's holding capacity, authorities have released 2.5 cusecs of water through one of the gates to manage the increasing levels.
The gate was opened in the presence of Additional District Magistrate Ishwar Chandra Nayak and other senior government officials. Executive Engineer Suresh Chandra Behera stated that, depending on further rise in water levels, an additional gate may be opened to ensure safe regulation of the dam.
