Athamallik, July 9:The Excise Department has successfully apprehended a ganja smuggler while he was attempting to transport illegal cannabis through Athamallik town. During the operation, officials seized 30.72 kilograms of ganja along with an Indigo car used for smuggling. The accused has been produced in court.
The smuggler has been identified as Kamal Lochan Barik, aged 25, a resident of Kumar Dungi village under Kumar Dungi Police Station in West Singhbhum district of Jharkhand.
The arrest took place around 6 AM on Wednesday, when Kamal was caught transporting two sacks of ganja in an Indigo car through Athamallik. He was intercepted by the Excise team at Liptiga Chhak.
The operation was led by Excise Inspector Pabitra Mohan Majhi, assisted by Sub-Inspector Niranjan Sahu and staff members Ajay Behera and Amardeep Kujur. The estimated value of the seized ganja is said to be over ₹3 lakh.
