Balasore, July 9: In a tragic mishap, a youth was killed and another sustained critical injuries after a speeding car belonging to West Bengal MLA Goutam Chowdhury hit their scooter in Jamujhadi area of Odisha's Balasore district today.
The deceased has been identified as Radhakanta Lenka, a resident of Sajanpur in Sora.
According to reports, the accident occurred around 10:30 AM on National Highway-16 when the MLA’s car, traveling from Puri to West Bengal, collided with the scooter crossing the highway.
Eyewitnesses said the car was speeding and hit the two-wheeler from the side, causing significant damage.
The two individuals on the scooter were rushed to Simulia Hospital, where Radhakanta was declared dead. The other, reportedly a relative of Lenka, is currently undergoing treatment and remains in critical condition.
On the other hand, MLA Goutam Chowdhury and five members of his family, who were travelling in the car, narrowly escaped the mishap unhurt.
Upon getting the information, Simulia police arrived at the accident site and initiated an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident.
The cops also seized the deceased’s body and sent it for post-mortem.
