New Delhi, August 9: Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated the festival of Raksha Bandhan at his official residence, 7 Lok Kalyan Marg, in the heart of the national capital on Saturday. The occasion, which honours the cherished bond between brothers and sisters, brought together schoolchildren and members of the Brahma Kumaris spiritual organisation, who tied ‘rakhis’ on the Prime Minister’s wrist and offered him sweets.

The celebration was filled with warmth and joy as children greeted PM Modi with smiles, handshakes, hugs, and even a gentle peck on the cheek. In return, he embraced them and extended his blessings. Photographs released by the Prime Minister’s Office showed a cheerful gathering of youngsters surrounding him, each taking turns to tie the sacred thread.

The Brahma Kumaris, known as the world’s largest women-led spiritual movement, were a prominent part of this year’s celebrations at 7 LKM. Several members tied rakhis to the Prime Minister, who assured them of his continued commitment to their welfare and empowerment.

Earlier in the day, PM Modi extended his wishes to the nation via social media platform X, posting, “Best wishes on the special occasion of Raksha Bandhan.”

Raksha Bandhan, observed on the full moon day of the Hindu month of Shravan, symbolises the sacred promise between siblings. Sisters pray for their brothers’ health, happiness, and prosperity while tying the rakhi, and brothers, in turn, vow to protect and cherish their sisters, often marking the occasion with gifts.
