Bhubaneswar, June 23: The Open Schools Chess Championship came to a successful close on Sunday at IIT Bhubaneswar, showcasing young talent from across the state. Naman Raj Singh clinched the championship title, while Neelansh G., both students of Kendriya Vidyalaya, IIT Bhubaneswar, secured the runner-up position.
Alongside the top two winners, 18 other students were felicitated with trophies for their impressive performances. Among the notable awardees were Aditya Prasad Subudhi, Ryan Samant, Himansu Sehar Sahoo, Hridaya Srinivasa, Aahan Nanda, Shivram Das Katiki, Aman Arpit Swain, and Deepsikha Mohapatra. In total, nearly 100 students from various schools across Odisha participated in this state-level tournament.
The event was inaugurated by S. Radhika Patro of the Anand Activities Center, IIT Bhubaneswar. The prize distribution ceremony was graced by Chief Guest Pankaj Kumar Nagwani, Senior Divisional Engineer (Coordination), East Coast Railway, Khurda Road.
The tournament was seamlessly conducted by Avinash Baliarsingh, Director of Dream Chess Academy, and Suresh Baliarsingh, President of the Jatni Chess Association. The championship was jointly organized by the Anand Activities Center at IIT Bhubaneswar, Dream Chess Academy, and the Jatni Chess Association, marking a successful collaboration in promoting chess among school students.
