Meteorological Centre issues urgent squall and thunderstorm alerts
Meteorological Centre Bhubaneswar has issued urgent warnings regarding squally weather, thunderstorms, and lightning across multiple districts. Regional forecasters anticipate wind speeds reaching 40 to 50 kmph, gusting up to 60 kmph, commencing Monday evening. Surface wind intensity will escalate further, reaching 50 to 60 kmph and gusting up to 70 kmph by early Tuesday morning. These severe winds will gradually subside on Wednesday afternoon, returning to a calmer state. Yellow warnings remain active for isolated thunderstorms accompanied by surface winds of 30 to 40 kmph over Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha, Cuttack, and several other eastern districts through Monday morning. Odisha frequently experiences volatile coastal weather systems during the post-monsoon transition period. Severe atmospheric shifts typically trigger sudden squalls, intense lightning strikes, and localized heavy rainfall before stable winter patterns establish dominance.

Fishermen warned off rough seas
Sea conditions will turn rough to very rough starting Monday evening. Marine officials have strictly advised fishermen against venturing into the Northwest Bay of Bengal. This critical restriction specifically covers the deep waters along and off the South Odisha coast. Fishing operations must remain completely suspended until sea conditions improve by Wednesday afternoon. Recent realized weather data shows significant precipitation over the last day, with Bijatala in Mayurbhanj receiving 52 mm of rainfall. Harichandanpur in Keonjhar recorded 44.6 mm, while Daringbadi logged 20 mm, highlighting the ongoing atmospheric instability over the region.
Temperature drop expected soon
Night temperatures will experience no significant shifts over the next four to five days. Meteorological experts project a distinct fall of 2 to 3 degrees Celsius across all Odisha districts immediately following this stable period. Current minimum temperatures stand at 18.6 degrees Celsius in Paralakhemundi, with the hill station of Daringbadi recording 17.5 degrees Celsius. Puri recently recorded the highest maximum temperature at 33.6 degrees Celsius during the day. Residents should prepare for the incoming winter chill once the current turbulent weather system finally dissipates.
