Fresh cyclone threat? Low pressure system over Bay of Bengal likely to intensify

Bhubaneswar, Oct 31: As Odisha continues to recover from the devastating impact of cyclonic storm Arnab, a developing weather system over the Bay of Bengal has raised the possibility of another cyclonic storm in the region.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the well-marked low-pressure area over the southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands is likely to intensify into a depression within the next six hours.

The weather system, which moved west-northwestwards from the South Andaman Sea, is further likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm during the subsequent 24 hours, the IMD said in its bulletin issued on Saturday.

It is expected to continue moving west-northwestwards and reach the west-central Bay of Bengal, near the Andhra Pradesh coast, around the evening of November 2.

The latest development comes as Odisha is still recovering from the impact of Cyclone Arnab. However, the IMD's current forecast places the developing system near the Andhra Pradesh coast, and no direct landfall prediction for Odisha has been indicated in the bulletin.

Further developments will depend on the system's intensification and movement over the coming days.
