Ganjam flood crisis: Over 1 lakh affected across 398 villages, 74,000 ha of crop damage

Bhubaneswar, Nov 1: Severe flooding caused by cyclone Arnab has affected more than 1 lakh people across 22 blocks and 398 villages in Odisha's Ganjam district, said Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Rajesh Prabhakar Patil said on Sunday.

The SRC said around 74,000 hectares of agricultural land and 1,000 houses have been damaged in the cyclone-induced flood in the district.

Severe flooding in the Ganjam district has severely impacted approximately 105,000 residents across nearly 400 villages, displacing thousands into relief camps.

Around 74,000 people have been evacuated and housed across 371 relief camps.

Authorities have initiated extensive crop and property damage assessments while prioritizing urgent infrastructure rehabilitation, the SRC said.

Significant progress has been achieved in restoring mobile networks and electrical grids, with thousands of technicians deployed to ensure safety and full power recovery. Additionally, urban drinking water supplies are progressively returning to normal through the use of water tankers and rapid repairs.

Patil said restoration of essential services was progressing in the affected areas.
